Hey, I'm Mayleen Liu, a junior at the University of Notre Dame, majoring in Computer Science with a minor in Engineering Corporate Practice. Originally from Canada, I grew up in Peoria, IL and call it my home. I have a strong passion for the intersection of business and computer science, as I find it incredibly exciting to explore how technology can drive innovation and create value in various industries. Besides my academic pursuits, I enjoy engaging in diverse activities. When I'm not solving problems, you can often find me immersed in a good book, experimenting with new recipes, exploring the outdoors, or playing the violin. I have a deep appreciation for learning and love embracing new adventures along the way.

Fall 2021 - Spring 2025: University of Notre Dame

My journey at the University of Notre Dame has been nothing short of incredible. When I first started here, I had doubts about whether I would make it this far. The challenges seemed overwhelming, and there were moments when I questioned my abilities. But here I am, halfway through my time at Notre Dame, and I couldn't be more grateful for the experiences and opportunities I've had.

One aspect that has enriched my college experience is my involvement in the Society of Women Engineers (SWE). Being part of SWE has allowed me to connect with a community of inspiring individuals. Last year, I had the privilege of serving as the Mentorship Director, a role that I truly appreciate. Through this role, I was able to inspire and guide incoming freshmen, helping them navigate their first year and connecting them with upperclassmen mentors. It was fulfilling to witness their growth and see how mentorship can make a positive impact on their journey. Attending the SWE conference was a truly empowering experience, where I gained valuable insights and connected with professionals in the field.

Another passion of mine is music, and I'm proud to be a member of the Notre Dame Symphony Orchestra. Playing the violin has always been a significant part of my life, and being part of this ensemble has allowed me to express my love for music while connecting with fellow musicians. The orchestra provides a creative outlet and a sense of camaraderie that enhances my overall college experience.

Additionally, I am actively involved in Building Bridges, an organization that focuses on creating opportunities for underrepresented minorities. Through this initiative, I have been able to contribute to fostering a more inclusive and diverse campus community.

Being part of these organizations and engaging in mentorship, music, and inclusivity initiatives has shaped my college experience in profound ways. They have taught me the value of community, support, and the power of inspiring others to reach their full potential. I'm grateful for the lessons I've learned, the friendships I've made, and the growth I've experienced. As I continue on my journey at Notre Dame, I'm excited to make the most of every remaining opportunity and continue contributing to the vibrant community that makes this college experience so special. Summer 2022: Intern @ Center for Civic Innovation

I conducted Food Information Networks (FINs) research and implemented a pilot food hub delivery service. I collaborated in app design, creating a medium fidelity prototype and conducting usability testing for an intuitive user experience. Using Figma, I elevated the UI/UX design and integrated EBT/SNAP and APIs to connect with Walmart, enhancing accessibility and functionality. Through these projects, I gained valuable experience in research, app design, and integration.

Fall 2022 - Spring 2023: Research Assistant @ Notre Dame Visualization Lab

As an undergraduate research assistant, I played a key role in developing and training machine learning models using PyTorch, TensorFlow, and OpenCV, achieving high levels of accuracy (over 85%). Additionally, I collaborated with the team to create and implement a D3.js visualization for automatic archery scoring and analysis, improving accessibility and usability. The visualization has provided valuable insights statistical analysis, and enhanced the overall quality of our research findings. I presented the paper at ISVC in October 2023 at Lake Tahoe. Summer 2023: Software Engineer Intern @ Chubb

As a software engineer intern, I actively contributed to the development of Major Account Transactions (MAX) Sheets using Angular and NodeJS. These sheets were designed to streamline the workflow for underwriters by automating data population from the ACES database and COU Tracking systems, eliminating the need for manual data entry. This significantly improved efficiency and accuracy in the underwriting process. During my internship, I collaborated closely with a cross-functional team, leveraging my skills in SQL and Postman. This collaborative effort ensured reliable data transfer and integration between different components of the system.
